About ED and PE
Erectile dysfunction is characterized by the regular, repeated inability to obtain or maintain an erection. There are many known issues that may cause erectile dysfunction including taking anti-depressant drugs, aging, diabetes, performance anxiety stress, and smoking, just to name a few. There are no formal tests to diagnose erectile dysfunction though some blood tests are generally done to exclude certain underlying diseases. Treatment of erectile dysfunction depends on the cause. Medications are often the first treatment tried for erectile dysfunction and premature ejaculation (PE). For most men who have trouble keeping an erection firm enough for sex (erectile dysfunction), these medications work well and cause few side effects.
Medication and Peptides
Sildenafil (Viagra) and Tadalafil (Cialis) are both medications that reverse erectile dysfunction by increasing nitric oxide, a chemical naturally produced by your body. Nitric oxide opens and relaxes blood vessels in the penis, helping you get and keep an erection. These erectile dysfunction medications don't increase your sex drive, though, and cause erections only when you are sexually stimulated.
Bremelanotide PT 141 was developed from Melanotan II, targeting its aphrodisiac effects. This peptide has been shown to have a substantial effect on libido, generating sexual arousal in both men and women within minutes of administration. It has been shown to be effective in treating erectile dysfunction, even in men who have not responded to other ED treatments, such as Viagra and Cialis. This peptide is also able to cross the blood-brain-barrier, bypassing the vascular system and acting at the level of the central nervous system. PT- 141 has been shown to have significant results on male test patients, with what is described as “intense” and “frequent” erections lasting between 2-6 hours.
Tramadex is a blend of two compounded combination of medications which are used to treat premature ejaculation (PE). It can be combined with Viagra or Cialis. It works by the targeted modulation of synaptic receptors and processes of the central nervous system that are involved in the ejaculatory process. Treating PE with Tramadex can help to increase Intravaginal Ejaculatory Latency Time or the Time-to-Ejaculation (T2E) thereby enhancing the enjoyment of sexual intercourse. This treatment has the ability to both extend the T2E as well as completely suppress the ejaculatory response at higher doses on the order of two to three capsules.
Erectile Dysfunction — Don't Ignore the Underlying Cause
Taking Viagra or Cialis without treating the original problem may improve sexual performance but don't ignore an underlying issue by just taking pills to treat the symptom of another health issue. Getting proper treatment for the underlying cause of erectile dysfunction may help prevent related health problems and improve sexual function as well. Discuss this with one of our physicians during your office visit and make sure you are treated for the issue that is causing ED in addition to treating the ED symptom itself. Call 480-839-4131 or fill out a consultation request form found throughout the website to schedule an office visit.
Conditions that can cause or worsen erectile dysfunction include:
- Heart disease - In some cases, erectile dysfunction is the first sign of serious heart or blood vessel problems such as hardened arteries (atherosclerosis).
- Diabetes - Over time, diabetes can damage blood vessels and nerves, making it more difficult to get or keep an erection.
- Psychological issues - Depression and anxiety can cause sexual problems and often require treatment such as counseling or medications to get better.
- Being overweight - Being overweight or obese can cause or worsen erectile dysfunction because of hormonal changes and related cardiovascular issues. Increased physical activity and losing weight can improve your overall health and sexual function.
- Low testosterone - Men who have low testosterone levels (hypogonadism) may need testosterone replacement therapy to increase sex drive and sexual performance.
- Lifestyle choices - Unhealthy habits such as drinking too much alcohol, smoking, using illegal drugs and not getting regular exercise can all worsen erectile dysfunction.
