LOW ESTROGEN AND PROGESTERONE

Wondering if you have low estrogen and/or progesterone? When we are low on one or both of these hormones, a host of symptoms can occur. Low levels of estrogen and progesterone are often associated with age, but there are other reasons it can occur.

Read on to see the common symptoms of low levels of these hormones.

Low Estrogen Symptoms

Estrogen is beneficial in maintaining skin firmness and elasticity in post-menopausal women. It can also alleviate vaginal dryness that accompanies menopause and is also essential for immune system functioning.

When you are low on estrogen, you may experience the following:

  • Fatigue
  • Cravings for sweets or carbohydrates
  • Weight gain
  • Hot flashes and night sweats
  • Feeling depressed or overwhelmed
  • Mood swings or irritability
  • Insomnia or restless sleep
  • Headaches
  • Low libido
  • Fuzzy thinking
  • Stiffness or joint pain
  • Anxiety
  • Heart palpitations
  • Breast pain
  • Adult acne

Low estrogen can be the result of aging, but it can also stem from genetic disorders, autoimmune disorders, and eating disorders. There are also several other health conditions that can influence estrogen levels, as well as treatments such as chemotherapy.

Low Progesterone Symptoms

Progesterone is beneficial in maintaining mood, sleep and helping to balance estrogen. It can also improve sleep and metabolism which in turn can help you maintain your weight and prevent weight gain.

When you are low on progesterone, you may experience the following:

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Weight gain
  • Hot flashes
  • Excessive menstruation
  • Mood swings or irritability
  • Insomnia or restless sleep
  • Headaches
  • Low libido

Low progesterone can stem from issues with your menstrual cycle, hypothyroidism, low cholesterol, and increased cortisol, among other causes.
