BHRT -  Estrogen and Progesterone Replacement Therapy

Hormones control a lot of our body’s functions, meaning when hormones are off because of estrogen disruptors or even low testosterone, things like energy, motivation, general health, vitality, are missing as well.

In women, estrogen replacement primarily targets the uterus, vaginal tissues, breast, muscle, bone, skin and brain. Low estrogen levels can increase LDL levels (the harmful cholesterol) and decreases HDL (the good cholesterol). Progesterone replacement primarily balances estrogen but it also improves sleep, improves mood, increases metabolic rate, acts as a natural diuretic and enhances action of the thyroid hormones. It is very important that bioidentical hormones are used; synthetic estrogen and progesterone have been shown to be harmful. Bioidentical means that the hormones are identical on a molecular level with our own natural hormones.

Replace what your body is losing. Easy and naturally.

Progesterone and Estrogen replacement therapies aim to get back what the body is no longer naturally producing. Studies show that estrogen replacement in particular protects women from heart attacks/disease, relieves menopause symptoms, preserves bone density and muscle mass, improves metabolic rate, decreases LDL, increases HDL, maintains skin collagen and decreases risk of developing diabetes. Progestrone replacement studies show that it helps balance estrogen, improves sleep, lowers blood pressure, lowers cholesterol, increases metabolic rate, is a natural diuretic, and a natural antidepresant. Bioidentical hormone replacement therapies (BHRT) have been around for years and on-going studies show that the benefits of bioidentical hormone replacement therapies outweigh the risks. It offers women disease prevention, aging modification, and most of all, improved quality of life.

Aging does take a toll on our bodies; those of us over 40 have already noticed the changes including symptoms of low estrogen, progesterone and low testosterone.  And in this case the saying, “change is good” may not be so true! The answer to managing your age could be as simple as continuing to maintain a healthy level of estrogen and progesterone through bioidentical hormone replacement.

ESTROGEN

Women who are hormonally deficient or experiencing estrogen menopause are known to have higher rates of death from heart attacks, strokes, and osteoporosis.  This is especially true for those who have had their ovaries removed and are going without hormone or estrogen replacement therapy.

Studies support these findings and in addition show that the mortality rate is lower by more than 40% in the women who took estrogen. Low estrogen levels also contribute to depression, thinning hair, poor memory, and general hormone deficiency symptoms such as fatigue and increased risk of osteoporosis.

Hormone replacement therapy with estrogen is heart healthy, it protects your bones, it maintains your brain function, it protects against Alzheimer’s and it helps keep your skin looking great.

Functions of Estrogen

Estrogen does a tremendous number of things within the body. Here is a look at all the functions of this hormone.

  • Stimulates production of choline acetyltransferase, an enzyme which prevents Alzheimer’s disease
  • Increases metabolic rate
  • Improves insulin sensitivity
  • Regulates body temperature
  • Helps prevent muscle damage
  • Helps maintain muscle
  • Improves sleep
  • Decreases blood pressure
  • Increases HDL by 15%
  • Reduces the overall risk of heart disease by 40-50%
  • Decreases lipoprotein(a)
  • Acts as a natural calcium channel blocker to keel arteries open
  • Enhances energy
  • Enhances mood
  • Decreases LDL and prevents oxidation
  • Helps maintain memory
  • Increases reasoning and new ideas
  • Increases concentration
  • Maintains bone density
  • Helps prevent glaucoma
  • Helps with fine motor skills
  • Increases water content of the skin and is responsible for its thickness and softness
  • Enhances the production of nerve-growth factor
  • Reduces risk of cataracts
  • Helps maintain the elasticity of the arteries
  • Dilates small arteries
  • Increases blood flow
  • Inhibits platelet stickiness
  • Decreases the accumulation of plaque on the arteries
  • Enhances magnesium uptake and utilization
  • Maintains the amount of collagen in the skin

COMMON BENEFITS OF ESTROGEN REPLACEMENT:

  • Reduced joint and muscle pain
  • Reduced risk of colon cancer
  • Reduced rate of bone loss
  • Reduced rate of heart disease
  • Reduced rate of Alzheimer’s disease
  • Improved concentration
  • Improved memory
  • Improved mood
  • More energy
  • Better sleep
  • Reversal of vaginal atrophy
  • Maintenance of youthful skin quality

PROGESTERONE

Women who are experiencing symptoms of low progesterone can easily restore their levels to a normal physiologic range. Studies show a decreased incidence of breast cancer when using bioidentical progesterone and estrogen together. Studies also support that premenopausal women who have healthy progesterone levels have an 88% reduction in the risk of developing breast cancer.

Bioidentical progesterone replacement therapy is cancer protective, it protects your bones, it improves sleep and maintains your immune function, it protects against aging and it helps balance your estrogen.

COMMON BENEFITS OF PROGESTERONE REPLACEMENT:

  • Balances estrogen
  • Naturally calming / antidepressant
  • Lowers high blood pressure
  • Reduced rate of heart disease
  • Helps the body use and eliminate fat
  • Improved sleep
  • Lowers cholesterol
  • Increases metabolic rate
  • Natural diuretic
  • Promotes immunity
  • Stimulates the production of new bone
  • Enhances actions of thyroid hormones
